The journey

Well, after a very eventful day of traveling, I am sitting in my Roma apartment with my new roommates checking my facebook (obviously very important). I've been awake for somewhere around 28 hours with only a one-hour nap in there somewhere.

My day started off yesterday at the unnecessary hour of 7:20 in the morning because my mother decided she needed a hour and forty minutes to get ready for her flight to Florida and, after being rerouted, sitting on the runway in DC for an hour, sitting in the Atlanta airport for another few hours, sitting on the plane to Rome for an hour and a half only to be told there were mechanical issues and we needed to send in a new plane, waiting for that plane to be ready, and flying across the Atlantic, I finally arrived in Rome about noon today. I did manage to make friends with an 8 year old girl who's already been to Rome FIFTEEN TIMES in her short life. She recounted basically every moment of her existence to me while we were waiting around and I became very good friends with her stuffed elephant, Chip.

Regardless of the travel situation, I made it to Rome! So life is much better than it could be right about now. Soon we're going out to get some food and wander around the city (they pretty much trust us to do whatever we want and have faith in our shaky abilities to find our way around the city on our own) and then I'm definitely SLEEPING for a very long time. We have lots of things planned and I already have a presentation to give on Wednesday so I feel like we might be pretty busy, but I'm excited to actually get going!

Anyways, I've been in Rome for nearly 7 hours now and haven't eaten any delicious Italian food or gelato yet and it is high time to fix that situation. I will hopefully post things to this blog pretty frequently to keep you all updated on my life, so enjoy!

  1. Great blog Kristin! But for the record, though I got up 1 hr and 40 min before we had to leave, you on the other hand slept for another hour. Just had to clarify! ;)

Glad you made it safely and that your luggage made it too. Hope you finally got some gelato before your well deserved long sleep.

  3. Your Blog was a nice surprise, and a great way to start my day!
Your flight sure was mixed up - but after all that you made it, and after some nourishment and sleep y ou'll be ready to tackle Rome! I envy you!

Just where is your apartment? Grampa and I stayed in a small hotel which occupied part of a floor of an old palazzo near Santa Maria Maggiore church. We tripped all over via local bus, trolleys, trains and shoe leather. Do you go to a classroom each day, have study assignments? Anyway, enjoy all of these experiences you will have for the rest of your life!
My big deal today is that a group of us here are going to Ferdinand's for ice cream this afternoon. It is still gray and chilly here, not the best day for ice cream, so will have to warm it up with some hot fudge!
